The Far North Quilt Trail was initiated on the traditional territories of the Dena Peoples of the lower Tanana River - we gratefully acknowledge this in thanks to the original inhabitants that stewarded this land since time immemorial.

Last August, I gifted this barn quilt to my mom for her birthday after spotting this pattern and instantly knowing it was the perfect one. I even reached out to the quilt pattern designer, who was thrilled to see her design transformed into a barn quilt! Surprising my mom with it was so special, and I couldn’t wait to see where she’d choose to display it. Now it hangs proudly at the family business, Risse Greenhouse, where everyone can enjoy it. Mom, love you!

There’s something special about seeing a barn quilt come to life layer by layer. These process shots capture Lorene carefully painting each section by hand — taping crisp lines, choosing colors, and slowly watching the pattern emerge from a simple board into a meaningful piece of art. Every brushstroke reflects the same care and creativity found in quilting itself, blending tradition, craftsmanship, and love into something made to last. Seeing the transformation from sketch to finished barn quilt makes the final installation at Risse Greenhouse even more meaningful.
