Boreal Sun Charter School and the Friends of Boreal commissioned artist Somer Hahm to paint the "Rising Sun" barn quilt in July of 2020.

A significant and special request for the artist as her two children attend school at Boreal Sun. 

​

Participation in the Far North Quilt Trail resonated with faculty, staff and the families of Boreal Sun, as the goal was to connect the school into the broader community by enlivening the neighborhood with public art.

With the generous help of G2 Construction, the barn quilt was hung in October 2020, during the first snow storm of the year.
