Kris Capps of Kids in Motion spearheaded this wonderful project and registered this barn quilt. She says,"The design is significant for local residents of the Denali Borough. It depicts the logo for the Denali Quilters, a longtime group of talented quilters from Anderson to Cantwell. Early Denali Quilter Anne Paul of Anderson created the winning design, which the quilters attach to every quilt they make as a group. It also has meaning. Firstly, the triangle shape is unique. “That Greek/math shape symbolized ‘change’ and we were up for changing things,” said Anne Paul, who created the design. “It was the shape of The Mountain, so obviously an icon of the area.” The “logs” are intended to be like the traditional “log cabin block,” starting with a red orange center that symbolizes the hearth and the inner-locking logs constructed around it. The colors of the logs, though, go back to the mountain/Alaska symbolism with dark blue for the mountain lakes and streams, dark green for the forests and lighter green for the tundra. On the top edge, a white glacier represents the mountain itself, Denali. The colors are bold and saturated, representing the quilters of Denali who are bold, independent, creative people."

The Denali Barn Quilt was commissioned by the longtime nonprofit Kids In Motion.

Denali artist Sarah Crowley painted the work.
