The Far North Quilt Trail was initiated on the traditional territories of the Dena Peoples of the lower Tanana River - we gratefully acknowledge this in thanks to the original inhabitants that stewarded this land since time immemorial.
The Far North Quilt Trail, Alaska's barn quilt trail, was established in Fairbanks in 2019.A scavenger hunt for public art, the Far North Quilt Trail thrives on community involvement and provides a platform for Alaska residents to showcase their barn quilts online. Create a barn quilt, install it on your home/barn/shed/mailbox and register to be a part of this community wide trail of public art.
Registration is free and open to the public.
A new American Folk Art Movement, barn quilts gained popularity in Ohio in the early 2000's and have now spread to 41 States in the US. Vibrant painted quilt blocks placed on the sides of barns and other buildings highlight architecture, honor familial heritage and usher in tourism to often overlooked areas of a community.
